ANet was created by ex-Blizzard members, yes.

Quote:
The founders of ArenaNet were former employees of Blizzard Entertainment who played important roles in developing the highly successful computer games Warcraft, StarCraft, Diablo, Diablo II, and the Battle.net gaming network

Pretty sure they left because they wanted to go in a different direction than Blizzard. They wanted to make unique games, not generic games.

Yes, you are right ironSheik. This game is in the Diablo tradition. ANet had a different vision of what WoW should be. Their vision came to pass. The Blizzard version has also done "fairly well."

And the result is two top of the line companies making two types of games for two types of gamers. Worked out great, hasn't it?

Well, I'd say the best people left Blizzard, the ones that remained are the cash hungry types who make games with grind and bad graphics. Sadly 11 million sheep like that sort of thing!

When has beens like Shatner, Mr T and Ozzy are the poster boys for your game, oh dear, guess people have no dignity anymore

I know its off topic but i cant resist.

It boggles my mind why so many people play WoW. I think people are just conditioned by large corporations that if you want to have fun that you have to pay at least $15 monthly + expansions. I tried to play WoW once but I couldnt get passed the graphics. I know its not a good reason to give up on it, but its enough for me apparently.

GW spoiled me so much I cant play other games. :P

I like GW and its lack of monthly fees, because that way I don't feel "pressured" to play, but come and go as I please. I mean, if I knew that cash was being deducted from my account and I didn't play the game regularly, it would bother me. I did try a trial of WoW, but I didn't bother going on with it.

Oh puleez! Let's not start another WoW bashing thread again! I've played WoW and I basically liked it and I can see why other people do. There's nothing to be gained in pointlessly trying to put down some other game. So people like Smoothie PB, some like Crunchy - can't we all just get along.

And about people leaving Blizzard to start ANet - maybe they just had a real jackass of a boss and they got fed up and left. Maybe they were "the cash hungry types" and thought they could make more cash (for themselves) by leaving Blizzard. Who the *bleep* knows, who the *bleep* cares.

I'm just going to go out on a limb here and call you an idiot for that one. The rest of your post was not just reasonable but logical however.

I don't see cash hungry people making an online RPG without monthly fee's and then dishing out money hosting things like say the old "GvG championships".

I also think all the best workers that Blizzard had left them. I am extremely happy because of it as well. I kind of liked Hellgate: London (I didn't play it very extensively but I liked what I did play of it) which had some previous Blizz employee's behind it, I love Guild Wars which as stated had some previous Blizz employee's behind it and I also really like the movie underworld which if I recall correctly had some former Blizz employee's working on the monster design and such (I don't know if they had a hand in the second or third movie though).

Personally, (and I know a lot of people share this same opinion) I think that Blizzard just went from enthusiasm for their work(warcraft 3 and earlier) to just plain money mongering.

Yes, we don't know for sure why they left. It could be creative differences, they could of just not gotten along with the people they worked with, they probably saw the way Blizzard was heading and decided they wanted no part of it, it could be a number of things(

My money is on creative differences and maybe seeing and not liking the way Blizzard was going. But I'm biased which is a LOT more than a WoWtard would admit to and you know it if you are being honest about having played WoW. I had played it too and it did have some things that were nice. I personally liked the crafting system. However, there are far too many things about it in the negatives that make it only worth "about" half the initial cost to buy the game and expansions.

Nah GW didn't win Game of the Year or break any world records. D2 did

ANet please make GW2 have voice-overs for the quest text. Also, the equipment is what kept D2 addicting. You could have all the best gear in the game and still have room for improvement. For example there's Shaftstop and then there's perfect Shaftstop. Randomize the gear stats like this on GW2 and I'm hooked for life.

As for WoW, the game is incredible but it does have one major drawback and it's a big one. The developers refuse to give skills separate functions in PvP and PvE. This makes it impossible to keep every build of every class viable in both environments. In WoW if you want to excel in PvP with a Druid you practically have to go Resto build. You can do okay as Feral build and you're a masochist if you try to PvP with Moonkin build. In contrast, a Warrior in GW can excel in both PvP and PvE with any build whether it's Hammer, Axe, or Sword, because the functions of skills are different in PvP which allows the developers to tweak and prod as much as needed until every build of every class is balanced, without having to worry about screwing up anything in the opposite environment. I used Druid as an example because it was my only level 80 (level cap when I played).

As the OP's question has been answered, and as this thread is starting to degenerate into wow/bliz bashing and/or game e-peen comparisons and such..

Thread Closed.
